What concerns you today? Money or lack thereof? Your health? Relationships? Basic needs like food, shelter and clothing? Work? All these things matter and affect each one of us. Do we get addicted to figuring things out before we have a moment of peace? Or is there a better solution and way to live?
Recently, I was juggling a few of these concerns. Truth be told, I am not a juggler so metaphorically juggling multiple big things, I knew something would invariably drop to the ground. Before that happened, I, in almost last minute decision mode, gave it over to God. Know what happened? Our needs were eventually taken care of. Sometimes not the way we thought it would go, but nonetheless taken care of.
God recently gave me a word picture for this. Look at any globe. Notice that our planet is predominantly made up of water. Yet factor in this truth. The abundance of water stays in its place (the majority of the time minus a random hurricane) and doesn’t overwhelm the land. The water knows its boundaries set forth by our creator, God and is under His control. See some scripture reference:
“[Wisdom] was there when he (God) set the limits of the seas so they would not spread beyond their boundaries.” Proverbs 8:29
“Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the LORD, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.” Jeremiah 5:22
Considering the globe and really looking at it showed me that the Most High God that I pray to not only created this world but is in complete control over every aspect of it down to the water staying in it’s place and not overtaking the land, which by appearance it certainly could. Big idea: God is IN CONTROL!
So then, why should I worry about anything? We are instructed in the Bible to not worry but instead pray about everything (Phil 4:6-7) and the peace of God will guard our hearts and our minds. Jesus instructed us in Matthew 6:25-33 to not worry about what we would eat, drink or wear and ultimately anything about tomorrow. His word picture was for us to consider the birds all around that don’t plant or harvest yet God feeds them. Another word picture is to consider the lilies of the field in that they don’t make their own clothing yet nothing compares to how beautifully arrayed they are.
Our Heavenly Father cares even for these things and more so for us who are created in His image. We are advised to seek first (not after worrying and losing sleep trying to figure things out) seek FIRST the kingdom of God (Matt. 6:32-33) and He will give us all we need. This is the better solution and way to live.
And for today, consider the globe! He’s got everything in control even when it doesn’t seem like it.
Note: Shortly after writing this observation and admonishment, bad news happened. Such is the course in life. I valiantly try to redirect my mind what is true and wise and God inspired and something happens to distract or defeat me. I still stand by what I wrote. We are constantly being fed lies and deceived by our senses so it is vital to hold onto what is TRUE. The Most High God sits on the throne and despite all appearances IS in control!
